SUMMER HOLIDAYS ABROAD - EXPANDING YOUR PERSONAL HORIZONS!

Every summer Klasika students travel to the UK to study English, make new friends, take part in fascinating activities, go on trips around Britain. This summer our students visited Clifton College in Bristol, Merchiston Castle School in Edinburgh and Sidcot School in the south-west of England.

Dear Friends,

My name is Yuna Plotnikova. I will share with You one of my greatest summer experiences – 2-weeks summer English study programme in Clifton College in July. The college has more than 150 years long history and is placed in Top 100 UK schools. The college is situated in the upscale, quiet neighbourhood of Bristol nearby Bristol Zoo (one of the five oldest zoos in the world!).

I liked three things in my college studies. Firstly, activities sessions that were running for 3-4 hours each day. We had sports, played games, painted, and visited a swimming pool. The activities were organized by Activities’ Leaders who played with us, invented games and helped us to communicate in English. Secondly, I also liked English lessons, teachers were very good and my English improved significantly. Thirdly, I liked excursions a lot, most memorable for me was a full day trip to London, but I also liked Stonehenge and Oxford. Also, we did a lot of sightseeing around Bristol, attended Bristol Suspension Bridge and Bristol Cathedral, visited Bristol Zoo, Bristol Museum & Art Gallery, Bristol Aquarium and Science Center as well as did some shopping. Also, I was impressed by the building of Bristol University and the number of graduating students, it turned out that the university is included in the Top 5 UK Universities for research excellence and is home to 17 thousand students coming from more than 40(!) countries.

Additionally, the boarding conditions in the Clifton College were excellent. The food was great and very tasty. We lived in a century old red-brick Oakeley’s House of typical English style which was very cosy inside. The group of Latvian students shared the House with Spanish students so there was also international atmosphere. I also became a very good friend with my roommate Ieva.

My Clifton College experience was great and I would recommend it to all my classmates. I would like to visit Clifton College next year, and for longer time (I asked my mom for 1 month tripJ).

This summer I was at Sidcot summer school. It is situated in a beautiful, safe and rural location in the south-west of England and has outstanding facilities including a swimming pool, good IT facilities, a library, an Art Centre with music, drama and art facilities.

I followed A Level course and studied the following subjects: Economy, Politics, Business and Mathematics. I gained a lot of new knowledge. Moreover, my learning was further enhanced by a diverse programmer of workshops and lectures. We met Myra Lee - a popular BBC journalist, Iain Kilpatrick -  the headmaster of Sidcot School, Michael Turner - a famous explorer and the author of books about Sir Francis Drake’s life and voyages.

Also I met many new friends from Italy, Lithuania, China and France. This school really pleased me and I hope to go there next year.

It was amazing holiday at Sidcot boarding school near Bristol. I studied English, Business, Music, Art, Mathematics, Science. The lessons were very interesting and I learned a lot of new material. In the afternoon we had a lot of fascinating outdoor activities. For example: Art and Sport competitions, laser shooting, cooking etc. We visited many tourist attractions: Science Museum in Bristol, Cardiff Castle in Wales, West Midland Safari Park, Brunel’s  Great Britain ship. But most of all I liked London which is very beautiful. There we visited Buckingham palace, TATE Modern museum and DLD College. It was great experience and a chance to practice my English and study academic subjects. I liked it very much!!!

The course I attended at Sidcot School was really challenging. Every day we had five lessons. I studied English, Business, Music, Mathematics , Art and Science. After lessons we had Tutor time with our activities leaders. I lived in a boarding house in a single room. I really liked our trip to West Midland Safari Park and London. This trip was very interesting and exciting!
